Wairarapa Dog Training Club

fostering canine obedience and dog sports

Welcome to the Wairarapa Dog Training Club

The Wairarapa Dog Training Club has been operating since 1989 and is an affiliated member of Dogs NZ (previously known as NZ Kennel Club).

We aim to assist dog owners, and therefore also benefit the wider community, in having well behaved and obedient canine companions.

To further foster a close relationship between dogs and their owners we provide training classes in dog sports in addition to domestic obedience. Our members represent our club in traveling to, and competing in, dog sports shows primarily in our region (Central) but also further afield.

Training

The club has a total of 23 trainers and assistant trainers who give their time and skills on a volunteer basis. We provide training classes for the following disciplines:

Classes

Our club provides domestic dog training courses over 4 terms a year. Each course term varies in length from 6 to 8 weeks depending on the time of the year. Our domestic class content is based on Dogs NZ Canine Good Basics.

Our hope is that eventually our councils will recognize the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) award and this may mean cheaper dog registrations in the future.

All classes are held at our grounds situated at the Wairarapa A&P showgrounds, Chester Road, Carterton.

Classes are held in the evening - Domestic, CGC, Competition Obedience & Rally O on Tuesdays, Agility on Mondays & Scentwork on Wednesdays.

Duration of classes are up to an hour and are held between 6pm and 8pm. Cost is $80.00 per course.
